Soup and Leopards

without comments

When you’re ill, what you need is someone to look after you I find. Otherwise you end up stumbling around your gaff looking like you had a few Bourbons too many the night before; as you hack up goodness knows what and generally give yourself a fright when you pass the mirror on your fifteenth round trip to the toilet that night.

I’m feeling a teeny bit better today but still feel rough as dogs (unfortunately Bookshelf doesn’t have a translation) mostly because I spent much of the night sitting upright against my pillows in the dim light of the bedside lamp. I tried to read a little but Woolf was making no sense, and looking at my laptop’s screen (exploring complete and utter bollocks at 5am as you do) was akin to stabbing chisels through my retina.

Mushroom soup at 4am was nice though. But I would have liked to have someone make it for me, look after me a little, and then I could show my appreciation by coughing all over them and say thank you in a sultry Darth Vader like voice, topped with a volley from my temperamental nose. Oh hee, such joy.  Not.

Anyway I finally got to sleep at about 6am. Woke by my alarm at 7.30. I had to make a decision do I go to work and get identified accidentally as the ghost of Christmas past? Not a good idea, and I couldn’t get back to sleep. 1.50am Insomnia all over again.

Leopard

Anyway there was something on MacRumors at whatever hour is was about the new release of Mac OS X Leopard which is meant to be released this month. I’m not going to say much because my mind is far away from talking about anything techy. (Apart from Firefox is again leaking like a sieve in a Bangladeshi Monsoon and has sapped 300MB of memory to run a web browser with two tabs open)

Yes it’s meant to be out this month and there are still bugs being fixed and quite a few issues with it still for some. This smacks of Apple all over, they’ll rush it out and then it’ll take a couple of quickly release point releases to get the system up to speed for 99% of users. Let’s see, oooh iTunes 7.4. No sorry, 7.4.1, nahh, 7.4.2…what you mean we already have 7.4.3 on Windows and each time it’s a ~40MB download?!

I’m not having an unashamed bash at Apple here but their history on releasing software when it is ready is not that good. Hell I’m a fan of Mac OS X, it’s a good OS. But Microsoft does tend to get these things right really as you don’t tend to hear of Windows Media Player getting three big updates in the space of 2 and a half weeks. Yes yes you can shout Vista at me, but I’m not having a dig, I’m a Linux user so use neither. And it really bugs me off when I get a kernel upgrade on Ubuntu is fusks my use of proprietary Nvidia drivers on my desktop.

There you go, nice and balanced. What I need now apart from some sleep is a Petticoat 5. That’ll sort my computing needs out.
