The one thing I think sucks most about ‘modern life’
I should qualify that, modern life in the UK and probably many other countries too. (The USA and Canada I guess, probably much of Europe etc.)
It’s this whole dispersal of family thing.
My parents live 180 miles away (or I live 180 miles away) and I only see them in snippets each year, it’s like being a family in ’sneak-peeks’ three or four times a year. It would be so much better if you could be closer to family. But the work is where I live.
It makes me feel sad driving away after a week with them. I do miss them…
Those silly thoughts: M2 on the M2
I had a thought (hey no need to dive into the bushes) — I’m going to be doing the North Downs Way this summer (June) and part of the walk requires you to cross the Medway River on one of the Medway bridges carrying the M2 motorway (scenic huh) and I’ll be taking my Leica M2 to document the journey.
I’ll be with my M2 on the M2…
Ok sorry
The Word Processor Polluted and Bean
If you are anything like me, you will have lots of ideas and you will want to get them all done at the same time, with one caveat — that like most people the ideas are there but after work sometimes the resolve is not. And if you do dare switch on the computer you invariably spend your time reading forums, blog posts and other bits rather than actually getting your grand plans done. But what’s worse, you feel downright annoyed with yourself as you are helpless to actually get on with that great idea.

Switch Back, Forth, Back, Forth
Whilst I tend to use my computers until they’re in the ground, I do seem to have a periodic refresh, and not just to the same platform.
Mostly I have switched between Apple and Windows but threw Linux into that mix for a couple of years. For the time being I am not using Linux on my computers, work demand is such that I need to run a lot of Windows applications at the moment, most notably SQL Server 2005. On the laptop front, that is more my personal computer than my desktop is, which is really just a workhorse.
I have been using Macs on and off since 1994, and Windows PCs for the same time. I sold my PowerBook in late 2006 due to financial reasons, and then got a Power Macintosh G4 which I upgraded massively, but then had to sell that when things got tight. Eventually I ended up with a Dell PC, and my current ThinkPad T40 (which I have had now for about 3 years.)
